Mary - Buried Under Romance Mar 22, 2019 - 17:12 PM
Traditional regencies are simply not complete with a generous helping of comedy, and thankfully there is plenty of that in this story. The opening was slightly confusing, but true to this genre, it had a great comedic effect. Lady Letitia was visiting her widow friend in the country with a side mission to see her distant relative (greatniece, I believe) Lady Gloriana Hemsworth. Gloriana and her mother, the Countess of Faussley, had been living with some atrocious relatives, mushrooms as they wer [...]

"She was the most magnificent woman Bronson had ever encountered."3.75 stars. Lady Gloriana 'Anne' Hemsworth is taller than most men, but inches alone won't win over the angelic little devils at Wylington Manor, not to mention their devoted guardian. Our fair Juno, standing 6'3, is slightly shorter than the hero, Bronson. It almost feels like love at first sight, but the heroine doesnt even meet the hero till 39% into the story (a pacing problem). Things warm up rapidly from then on, with mischi [...]

Well, this was fun, well-told and well-written. 3.5Gist: a noblewoman sick of singing for her supper with social-climbing Cit relatives who've taken her and her mother in for their own advantage has struck out on her own and become a much-in-demand governess. She's hired to bring twin hellions into line before they're packed off to Harrow by their guardian in absentia, a baron who served in the navy as a captain. His wards, a young marquis and his twin brother, raise rumpuses in the isolation of [...]

I am forced to assume “Three Lords for Lady Anne” was not really intended to be a romance novel, because the “romance” between the main characters was quite pitiful. The hero is characterized by one trait, and one trait only - misogyny. He makes comments like: women are only good when they are on their back, whores should be branded, that sort of thing. And the heroine knows all this. Yet at the 50% mark, when the characters have barely met, the heroine is “helpless” to resist fallin [...]

This was actually painful to read. The first thing I noticed was the lack of commas- it was quite bewildering. Also, it was glaringly obvious that Ms. Dolan was attempting a pastiche of Georgette Heyer's novels by the use of terms that I have only read in Heyer's work, but it was so common (though poorly used) as to stray in plagiarism. I was constantly distracted by turns of phrase that I would have worded differently to make it flow better, or information that I would have let the reader wonde [...]

From the title of this book you may, like me, be a little concerned it is an erotic, kinky sort of historical book. But not to worry, it’s actually a cute little regency story from the early ‘90s and not a skerrick of bed play to be seen, kisses all the way, perfect for readers who do not like a whiff of smex in their books. Two of the lords are little scamps that help make this a very amusing story. I enjoyed this very much. I laughed out loud numerous times and it had a lot do with the two [...]

Anne is a very tall governess hired for a summer to teach twin boys before they go to Harrow in the Fall. She quickly loves the twins, but their guardian isn't quite so lovable, despite his good looks and all-around appeal. After a series of misunderstandings and mishaps, Anne comes to realize where her heart lies.I worried throughout the whole book that this was one of those that sucked me in and then gave me WAY too much information between love interests. You know the type. But, it just gave [...]

4.5 starsThis one reminded me so much of Georgette Heyer's books and what I love about them. Perfect blend of comedy and romance. I fell in love with the twins. I really liked the cast of characters, both primary and secondary each was so well developed and fit the plot perfectly. As I finished the last word, I realized I had a big smile on my face.

SpoilersA man who has no respect for women and a woman who has no respect for men bump into each other in town and without a word to each other fall instantly in love. Even if you're a fan of Insta love and I don't know anyone who would be this happened so fast it would make your nose bleed. But the biggest flaw in this story was that a man who tried to kill children several times is let go with a warning and the servant that helped didn't even get that. Well I hope the villain heeds it because [...]

Took me awhile to figure the three lords were the ten-year-old twins and Bronson. I kept looking for one more older lord. I particularly loved the scene of when all three lords rap on her door to ask if they can go see the baby horses. Cute story, great characters (though the twins got a tad too precocious at times), and a good sense of place.

Charming. Cute. It is because of books like this that I want to go and purchase all Signet Traditional Regency Romances. I want to have a big library full of this kind of book.If there are misunderstandings, drama, etc everything was solved very quickly. No beating around the bush here. Anne (a namesake I love) was in her teens, a very unhappy child, who is rescued by her aunt. Then she becomes a formidable governess not only because she can handle problems, from a drunk butler to a rogue master [...]

pretty disappointed. It has a very classic feel to it in that there are a lot of characters in the book and tons of goings on. I felt like I am reading a classical novel instead of a modern day romance. The main characters didn't meet until a long way into the book, there is not much private time between them for the emotions to feel too intense. The plot of intrigue which isn't one to the readers also didn't help build much interest as we know who dunnit already and the inability to figure thin [...]

This was a sweet and amusing novel. I enjoyed reading it, but found some of the characters and plot a little hard to swallow. The heroine is repeated described as breathtakingly beautiful, but considers herself ugly because she is ridiculously tall. And she is ridiculously tall. She is 6'2" (or there abouts) and that's ridiculously tall for nowadays. I'm that tall and I can tell you that I feel like a giantess at times and the average height is a lot taller now than it was back then. But it was [...]

Quite a decent read, surprisingly so. I had no idea this was published by Signet. Such a sad day this line ended. My only quibble was that the first chapter ran on and on about the background of Lady Gloriana, with the conversation taking place between two entirely unrelated people who just like to gossip. It was filled with information that was unnecessary (since I skipped it and didn't feel the lack). I thought all that was necessary was to say that Lady Anne was the daughter of some dissipated [...]

Well written in the sense that it was worded differently from all of the usual jargon I am used to. It had gotten to the point that the books I were reading seemed 100% identical. This one was different. The two who fell in love didn't meet til well nth the book and had lives. Crazy, I know. Anyway, for a fun quick read that is different but still in a genre I enjoy read this book. It was good.

Being a governess proved to be rather challenging for Anne Hemsworth. There were her two naughty charges who wished to drive her away. And there was Creighton Trussell who gave her the choice to lose her virtue or her post. But most of all there was Bronson Roebuck, Lord Leatham, her very handsome employer. Anne's inexperience had her tangled up with improper feelings for him Regency Romance by Charlotte Louise Dolan; originally published by Signet

This author came up on as an "also buy" and she is clean except for a couple offensive colloquial phrases that I would not like to read out loud. Also, whoever wrote the first book synopsis apparently hadn't read the book very carefully. They story was sweet and the heroine was different and very self assured. Good book.

Very cleverly written. She could give g. Heyer a run for her money. Love all the characters, the plot was fun also. My only complaint is that I think she tends to write very similarly, eg i read another of her books and the villains were similarly absurd, very cartoonish. She did some wonderful things within the book however.

3.5 stars. Something is slightly off for Dolan possibly due to my expectation. The insta-love was slightly eye-rolling. I would have preferred more interaction with the hero/heroine. I also appreciated the misunderstanding that was averted.

Absolutely delightful. The twins were completely adorable - I love how they shared sentences back & forth. There were some great laugh-out-loud moments - very funny!~ I'll definitely take a closer look at this author's works.

All about the downside of being a too tall woman during the regency. Worked out for Anne, but then she found a really, really tall man.
