I enjoy short story collections and this one was a delight from start to finish, with the added warm glow of knowing that it is raising funds for Dublin's creative writing centre, Fighting Words. There's not a bad story or illustration amongst them but I particularly liked the ecological slant of The Battle of the Ice Queen & a couple left me with a tear in my eye, especially The Last Cat, which is heartbreakingly beautiful. A chocolate box of stories that I will return to many times I'm sur [...]

I loved the variety in this book. Not really knowing much about it when I picked it up, it was exciting to begin each story and discover where it would lead. The illustrations were lovely, though I often wished there were more throughout each story, rather than just at the start. I think my favourite story was The Last Cat, told from the perspective of the cat. Though some stories stood out more than others, the only one I didn't much care for was Ice Fairies, as it was very short and didn't rea [...]

This little wintery collection of stories was just charming my favourite stories were Marita Conlen Mckenna's, which made me nostalgic for my childhood, and actually the last story by the 14 year old competition winner. So lovely! :)

There were some great short stories in this book and I would definitely recommend giving it a go. There are lots of different genres, but all are charming.

I couldn't finish it. Not really used to reading short stories, but I picked it up because of John Boyne (I had read The Terrible Thing that Happened to Barnaby Brocket, and was curious about the story of the dog) and because I found the concept really interesting, children's short stories by Irish authors. My favorite story was How to Help Your Grandda, by Judi Curtin, it made me all teary.

What a truly magical novel filled with such tales as to make you feel all kinds emotions and wonderment at once. The stories in this book, I really connected with each and every one of them and of course there were some that I favoured more than others, but all in all this book is a must read for people who have a particular fondness for fairy tales and all sorts of adventures rolled into one.
