When an established author brings out a collection of his best stories that have been published in the "Year's Best" anthologies, and when the said collection covers a span of 40+ years, there are enough reasons for me to be excited about it. This fiction collection is a dark tour de force that charts David’s writing through various professional publications. Usually in a single author collection you will find a couple of space fillers to up the word count, but in this case there wasn’t a single story that I didn’t enjoy reading. David has a knack for writing believable characters, using prose that grabs the reader and drags them into the story. Whenever we've discussed horror, my mom would always bring up her favorite horror story but was always unable to recall the title and author. After years of this, I finally decided to take to Google and figure it out so I could the story for myself.
