Tradition is a book that must be read slowly, the prose has so many surprises and twists - so many ordinary revelations. I enjoyed slowing down to savor every word more than I would normally expect. As the story unfolds (lives upon lives, times upon times like a flower budding) I realize that this may be the first time I am reading fiction about Blackness and the Midwest.
