I’m so mad at the author because I struggled all the way through this stupid story just to be done with it BUT IT ENDS ON A CLIFFHANGER, and I’m also mad at myself for falling for such a cheap trick because now I kind of want to read the second book even though this was sooo bad and even if I already know Skye and Holmes are going to eventually have sex and get married and probably have 2.5 children (although not necessarily in that order because Holmes is a Victorian gentleman and Skye is a [...]

Why, do authors do this? I mean, they write stories thinking they are the main characters. I understand that sometimes main characters have one or two resemblances to the author, but if most of the characteristics of the author go into the main character then it's a bit of a letdown, why, well because you tend to put on the main character your strong points, not your weaker ones, and that takes a bit of the soul of the character, I mean you should be able to relate to them, to feel them human, n [...]

The first 3/4 or so of this book feels a bit too much like self-insertion fan fiction to be enjoyable. Far too much time is spent establishing just how perfect Dr. Skye Chadwick is (both as a female specimen and as a love interest for Sherlock Holmes). Not very much happens for the first 2/3 of the book, either. And the book ends at the climax--with a cliffhanger. The book does start to get fairly compelling once the action finally begins. Holmes' personality is also quite well rendered and prese [...]

Dr. Skye Chadwick is brilliant, dedicated and committed to her pet project – The Tesseract. It's purpose? To observe alternative dimensions. As such, the group adheres to a strict hands off policy.During one such viewing, Dr. Chadwick finds herself unable to adhere to the hands off directive. Jumping into the scenario, she breaks apart two combatants. One tips out of the Tesseract ring and into the future. The other tumbles over a cliff, dying at the base of the waterfall.Enter Sherlock Holmes [...]

Excellent read, though was a bit disappointed in the ending, or perhaps I should say the lack there of. I hope that the story is continued and resolved in the second book.

When I was in the 4th grade, and everybody already knew me as the kid who could be found somewhere with his nose in a book, I was given a children's version of Sherlock Holmes. I guess I've bought the entire series six or eight times over by now, in various formats. It's a wonder, though, because that first book, which I received in 1962, ended at Reichenbach Falls! Why would they do that to a kid? Well, once I discovered there were more, I just kept buying them. I haven't seen all the old B& [...]

Originally published at Reading RealityI’ll admit to being an absolute sucker for Sherlock Holmes pastiches, so what drew me into the concept of Stephanie Osborn’s Displaced Detective series was seeing whether her concept of pulling the “Great Detective” into the 21st century worked reasonably well.It doesn’t just work, she figured out a brilliant way of handling the transformation of Holmes from literary character to flesh-and-blood human. And managed to give a nod to possibly everyon [...]

I truly enjoyed reading this book. The characters and the story line were well written and believable. Stephanie Osborn did a very good job of bringing Sherlock Holmes into the twenty first century using an interesting concept of science.Dr. Skye Chadwick is a contract scientist working on a top secret military project, Project: Tesseract, of viewing and interacting with alternate realities, which they call continuums. She and her team have focused on following Sherlock Holmes, whom they have di [...]

This book is captivating. Being written by none other than a rocket scientist, it carefully walks the line between science fact and science fiction. The romantic tension between the characters is very well written and not over the top so as to detract from the story. To prevent any spoilers, I'll only say this. There is nothing else like it. The entire series is outstanding! Stephanie Osborn is the greatest writer of our time. This book is a MUST READ! Even if you don't like Sci-Fi, this book is [...]

The Case of the Displaced Detective: The Arrival by Stephanie Osborn is terrific. I was a bit overwhelmed at the beginning by the physics and science, but once Holmes came into the picture and everyone began explaining things to him, I was able to keep up. I enjoyed the emotional connections that formed as well, but oooooo the cliff hanger! I am so glad I have the first four and can get right into the next episode. Such an enjoyable, fun book that jumped through all the hoops. Drama, suspense, t [...]

I had heard of this book at a Sherlock Holmes panel at LonCon3 (Worldcon) and decided to give it a try. Unfortunately, as was stated by another reviewer, I found it too fan-fiction-y to be able to get into the book. I rarely give up on a book, but this one, for now, it's going in the "ugh" pile.

I really enjoyed this book. I've read all of the original stories several times, and Stephanie Osborn has created a completely plausible version of the Great Detective. This is a Holmes torn out of his own time and tossed into the twenty first century.

DisappointingThe scientist spoke like an uneducated hick, with no self confidence. She spent most of the book either whining or mooning over Holmes. The villains were two dimensional and predictable. I had high hopes for this book, but was disappointed.

Fantastic concept and a fun read if you can just get past the desperate need for an editor, not of grammar, but style.
