One Month to Live doesn't start on a unique premise. Through a chemical exposure, Dennis Sykes develops superpowers and tries to use them to make a positive impact. 1 Month 2 Live has a really promising premise that unfortunately doesn't live up to the expectations. Dennis Sykes is a normal guy with a boring job, nothing that fulfills him and a pain-in-the-ass niece. This is a nice twist on an old Marvel formula, a bystander helps a person in need only to be exposed to biochemical wastes with mutagenic properties and give him super powers. Great premise, and Remender's starting issue gets things rolling well, but the rest of it is maudlin, boring, two-dimensional crap.I know I know, I'm supposed to treat cancer and its victims as sacred cows, and I'll try to be respectful of every actual person I meet that it touches. I ordered this book from together with the first Heroic Age Avengers' compilations because I was interested in what the story promised. It's not the first time one hears about a random person getting superpowers in a comic and following someone who was just given a determined amount of time to live on account of a medical condition is not at all an original concept but I was open and willing to look for a new interpretation of this. Once in a while, I pick up a comic book that I've never heard of on a whim. This is one of those times that doing that has really paid off. It's an interesting twist on the old fashioned accident-causing-superpowers origin of superhero. I found the story of Dennis Sykes and his family very compelling; and the unique look at some of my favorite characters in the Marvel universe was much appreciated. I just didn't see the point. Well, that's not true. I guess the point was to make everyone feel good by seeing prominent Marvel teams (and Spidey - was he on a team when this was written? Who can tell?) being nice to the sick man who happens to have acquired some very serious and useful powers. Honestly, Marvel has fallen out of favor with me because they have been putting out bad writing with decent art and calling it quality. This is not a typical Marvel book.The story about a guy who gets unimaginable powers, but learns he will die in a month is WONDERFUL!Best graphic novel I have read in a long time, not by a writer or artist I am familiar with.Read this and you will find a fantastic story and it will leave you wanting more!

All of the writers and artists who contributed to this book had their lives affected by cancer in some way, and it comes through in each of their stories. When it comes to sickness/death/dying, it's natural that we turn to the same platitudes and clichés, and while One Month to Live hits on a lot of these, it still feels genuine.

A story about a man with some heavy burders and unhappy with how he's led his life takes a risk, saves a life, and contracts terminal cancer plus some amazing superpowers for his trouble. He is called on to save the galaxy and other rather heavy-handed and blatant moments of heroism but ends up being a good story about the worth of a person.

What drew me to this comic was the fact the main character only has a month to live which in comic heroes is something I've never seen before and then of course that it included The Fantastic 4 and the Avengers (or what I assume is revised Avengers). I enjoyed this mini series and will reread it multiple times.

I really enjoyed this 6 issue comic.Nice arc, good fun, and a real sadness. I enjoyed issue 1 to check out the whole thing in the library.Would have liked him able to do more, but the arc worked for me.

This was a good read. Kind of bitter sweet though. I enjoyed the tie with the fantastic four! It's a good read to show what you can do to make your life worthwhile when there's not much time. Besides that it also reflects on the fact that anybody can be a hero if they try.

Occasionally cheesy super-hero graphic novel about a guy dying with cancer despite having five different writers for the five different "chapters," this is more coherently plotted than a lot of one-author graphic novels that I read.

Real life drama in a superhero world. This can be done horribly wrong or really right. This time it is a really good and sad story about endings, living your life and new beginnings. Loved it until the end.

Sad, but pointedly so, and a nice exploration of the Marvel Universe from street level. A good story and one that focuses on something real - cancer and its impacts - by using comics. Marvel never works better than when it does something like this.

I read this and liked it a lot. It was wish fulfillment on the grandest scale. You know early on what is going to eventually happen, but that is not the point of the story. It's watching someone get it all in such a short time and do everything he can with it. A serious tear-jerker. Good stuff.
