I'm taking a course on French-Canadian writers and this was the first book on the list. It took a long time to read, especially the first half. There were so many characters and priests mentioned that it was hard to determine who was who. There was a lot of stereotypes flung around and mostly unsavory characters. The second half of the book was devoted to two characters who were both in love with the same woman. One of the men was violent, arrogant, a liar and thief, but extremely good looking. [...]
