Some of these stories were good and some of these stories were not so good. There was something that was lacking in this collection. My favorite stories were Dust and The Pumpkin Boy. The Pumpkin Boy is a spinoff of Sarrantonio Orangefield series. I have other works by Al Sarrantonio that I will read in the future. You can't judge an author by one book alone.

Al Sarrantonio's short work is his own weird, his own kind of bizzarro, taking place in a fantastical borderland between reality and fantasy. Though not quite as satisfying as his previous short story collections, this one still is great way to spend your time.

If you're looking for some Halloween goodness, look no further than Halloween & Other Seasons, by Al Sarrantonio. Be forewarned, though: this collection is seriously dark.Sarrantonio's collection of short stories doesn't pull any punches. In fact, it hits you right in the throat from the first story, "Summer," and keeps the pressure on throughout the collection. "Summer" is a cautionary tale, a realistic view of youthful nostalgia that plays with the old maxim be careful what you wish for to [...]

Why only 3 stars ? Well, it has plenty to do with what I expected from this collection. Since I bought it from Cemetery Dance Publications, I expected a horror collection. And while there's plenty of that, there's also sci-fi, weird western, Twilight Zone like stories, etc. Also, in this almost 30 year spanning collection, you get to see Mr Sarrantonio growing as a writer, but that means that you get to read stuff from early in his career which is not as good as, for example "The Pumpkin Boy" (2 [...]

During the month of October I like to listen to audiobooks regarding Halloween. This book provided more confusion than entertainment with stories that did not make sense, unbelievable characters, and plot twists that seemed out of the blue rather then intently thought out.The only saving grace of the audiobook was the narrator (a Mr. Mcfreeze?).This book only had one out of its 18 stories that covered Halloween. It wasn't very good.Just because you wrote some weird stories that didn't end very w [...]

Al Sarrantonio is Bradbury's apostle- he learned the master of horror/science fiction/fantasy/nostalgia's style and put his own spin to it, and has continued in his teacher's footsteps, writing weird and dreamlike stories that evoke Halloween, childhood, and the absurdity of modern life, while still managing to surprise and occasionally chill. There's a distinct streak of cynicism evening out the wonder, though, as stories like "Sleepover" and "Letters from Camp" show that kids can have as much [...]

This is the May selection for the Cemetery Dance 2008 Book Club. Yeah, they're a little (it's September) behind.I thoroughly enjoyed most of this collection. 'The Man in the Other Car' gets two thumbs up, as does 'Dust' and 'Pumpkin Boy'.This is the second time I've come across the Underground Hamster thing and it is the second time I've passed over it after reading a mere hundred words or so Not every story can be a home run.

Eh, it was alright. I enjoyed some of these stories but many just felt half baked. I also was looking for halloween horror stories and not a compilation of the author's earlier works. The Pumpkin Boy was an oddly fun story though.

None of the stories really stood out for me. Was disappointed overall with this collection.
